Thomas J. Miller

Thomas J. Miller, 84, formerly of 129 Villa Nova Blvd, and a resident of Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement Community died 8:35 P.M. Friday, June 28, 2013, at Otterbein Saint Marys.

He was born January 24, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Theodore and Thelma (Clark) Miller.

He married Beverly Heil on March 13, 1948 and she survives at Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement Community.

He is also survived by four children: Lean (Stan) Wendel of Vandalia, Missouri; Vicki (Terry) Roode of Celina, Ohio; David (Mary Ellen) Miller of Saint Marys; Nancy (Tim) Gross of Saint Marys; by 9 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a son, Tommy Miller.

Tom was a 1947 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. He served in the US Naval Reserve. He retired from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, where he served as a dredge operator at many state parks in Ohio, including East Harbor State Park and Grand Lake Saint Marys State Park. He had also worked at Saint Marys Trucking and for many years operated his own sign painting company. He enjoyed bowling and auto racing. He loved working in his garage, where he designed and built a street legal car and a pontoon boat. He was a member of Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ in Saint Marys.

Funeral rites for Mr. Miller will be held 12:00 noon Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. Until the time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to the Parkinson’s Foundation or Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ. Condolences may be sent to Tom’s family via
