The Martinsburg Picnic is set for this weekend Friday, Aug. 16 and Saturday Aug. 17.
Kicking off Friday night activities will be the Kountry Kickers Line Dancers at 5:30 p.m. dancing to theme songs from across the USA.
The Merry Martins 4-H Club will begin kids games, also at 5:30 p.m.
A baby contest for ages 0-24 months will begin at 5:30 p.m. Babies should wear plain white T-shirt and diaper or shorts. The baby contest is followed by the Little Mr. and Little Miss Contest sponsored by “Ultimate Image,” Lisa Householder for ages 3, 4, and 5. The winners of the Little Mr. and Miss contest will ride in Saturday’s parade.
There will be a washer tournament beginning at 7 p.m. with sign up beginning at the horseshoe pits at 6 p.m. The contact is Matt Vomund at 573-564-8131.
A frog and turtle race sponsored by Marty and Darla Cassidy family will be held along with the Super Farmers Contest in cooperation with the Audrain County R-VI FFA. Super Farmer event will feature stick horses for for juniors, and a wife carry for adults, egg scramble, grain shoveling, hay stacking, and others.
Child contest is for ages 12 and under.
Junior contest is for ages 13 through 16.
And the adult contest is for ages 17 plus.
There is a $5 per team entry fee for the Super Farmers Contest, with first place winners getting a 50 percent payback.
Kamber Cain will be performing beginning at 8 p.m. So bring a chair and enjoy the music.
Saturday begins with registration for the Floriculture Contest at the Modern Woodmen of America building from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
A kitchen memories display opens in the Modern Woodmen of America building at 10 a.m., featuring photos of Martinsburg past cooks and their favorite recipes.
At 11 a.m. is the parade sponsored by Knights of Columbus No. 1270 with the theme this year of “Let’s Have a Slam Dunk, Grand Slam, Touchdown Kind of Picnic.”
The Martinsburg Jail has Open House from 12:30 p.m.-3 p.m. On display will be pictures of Martinsburg ball teams.
There will also be an Attendance sign up and guessing games after the parade with a drawing held at 5 p.m.
After the parade, there will also be the pedal pull for boys and girls ages 4-12 using Ronnie and Sherri Deimeke pedal tractors and sleds.
Martinsburg Community Church will be having an Open House from 12:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. to see their finished remodeling project. Punch and cookies will be served.
A Modern Woodmen of America Free Throw and Perimeter Shoot will take place starting at 1 p.m. Age divisions are to be determined with registration beginning at 12:30 p.m. under the pavilion.
Kids games such as the money scramble, bubble gum toss, sack race, three-legged race, hula hoop, watermelon eating, balloon toss, and tug of war will begin at 3 p.m.
Large bounce houses for kids and teens, and a rock wall will be available from 1 p.m.- 7 p.m. for the adventurous of all ages. $5 wristbands can be purchased for unlimited fun.
Saturday evening will feature music by Kelly Stanford, Outlaw Country and Rock and Roll with open-air dancing from 8 p.m.-midnight.
Concession include Knights of Columbus No. 1270 serving fish and potatoes; American Legion No. 552 serving beverages; County Line Creamery serving ice cream; Big Gun Kettle Corn serving popcorn; and the Audrain County Pork Producers serving up pork sandwiches.
