I want to take this time to thank our local first responders/members of the Vandalia Volunteer Fire Department, and Vandalia Police Chief Christopher Hammann for helping our family get my father out of our home on Monday due to a health issue. First responders, some of the same ones, along with the Van-Far Ambulance District also responded one time in May for an emergency issue he had. For years, our family has rarely utilized the services of our local emergency personnel and responders. In using these services twice in a month, it makes you appreciate even more the paid professionals and volunteers who are eager to serve us all in a moment’s notice.
Now I’m about to sound like someone much older than I am but I’m compelled to share my thoughts on many of our first responders.
Two times, I’ve had first responders come to my home who are either older teenagers or younger than 23.
I am so thankful for each of these young people who are willing to volunteer their time in serving their community.
As a Vandalia resident, it makes your heart feel good to know we have young ladies and gentlemen who are willing to put others first over themselves in service.
I’d mention you each by name but would hate to leave anybody out.
We truly are blessed to have the volunteers and emergency personnel who are serving in Vandalia.
It’s part of why living in a small town is so much better than the big city life.
If you would be so kind, please keep my father in your prayers. This is a new journey for our family as we try our best in taking care of an aging parent in our nearly 950 sq. ft. home. Our lives have changed forever but I’m ever so thankful God has given us the opportunity to move my father in with us.
I knew the day of taking care of a parent was coming but it’s been surreal every day this past month. I’ve went from seeing my dad as an only child just once or twice a year for 16 years to now seeing him every day.
We also spent Father’s Day together at church and that was special to me.
God continues to provide for our family and I’m so thankful for the devotion of my wife and her hard work this past month in taking care of not only him, but our entire home. She is an amazing woman and I still don’t know how she gets everything done.
Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers in advance. If you are someone needing prayer, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I’d love to correspond with you and pray for you as well.
