TED H. KORTE

Ted H. Korte, 97, of rural Bowling Green, died Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Tri County Care Center, Vandalia.  Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 16, at St. Clement Catholic Church, Bowling Green, with burial at St. Clement Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Thursday, May 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Mudd-Veach Funeral Home, Bowling Green.
Ted H. Korte was born April 2, 1917, in Breese, Ill. to Theodor A. and Julia (Oberdahlhoff) Korte.  At the age of two, Ted and his family moved to Bowling Green, where he resided his entire life. Ted married Loretta A. (Behlmann) Korte on Nov. 11, 1944.  She preceded him in death on Nov. 24, 2008.
After completing eight years of education at Crow School in rural Pike County, Ted worked at various farming and trucking jobs until he and Loretta married and began farming full time.  Upon semi-retirement from farming, he obtained his real estate license.
Ted was active in community and church activities including 79-year member of the St. Clement Knights of Columbus Council 1928 and member of the 4th Degree Knights; member of the Board of Directors for Cuivre River Electric Cooperative 1974 to 1983; founding member of the Bowling Green Rural Fire Association; member of the Bowling Green Rotary Club; and 4-H leader.
He enjoyed playing pitch and pinochle. Loretta and Ted were also members of camping clubs and a dance club, making many friends around the country during their travels.
Ted and Loretta were parents to three sons, Wayne Korte and wife Pam of Montgomery City, Jerome Korte and wife Diana, and Vernon Korte and wife Katie, and one daughter, Marie Korte, all of Bowling Green, who survive.
Other survivors include 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchilden: Stephen Korte, wife Angi, their children Samantha, Devyn, Luke, Lorna, and Stevie of Bowling Green; Carolyn Mullins, husband Michael, their sons, Troy and Ty of Marshall;  Diane Silvis, her husband Jon, children Tanner and Tressa Burns and step-daughters Kacy, Tomy, Cadence, Tinsley Silvis and expected daughter Rhy, of Millford, Pa.; Lisa Wieberg, her husband Ryan, their children Victoria and Will, of St. Thomas, and Michael Korte of Bowling Green;  Jennifer Appling, her husband Rob, children Alyssa and Bo, of Maryland Heights,  Jackie Feldmann, her husband Doug, son Alex, of Bowling Green; Kurt Korte, his wife Jaclyn, sons Corbin and Isaac of Jefferson City; Derek Korte, wife Christen, and son Tyler, of Rockvale, Tenn.;  Chris Korte, wife Jeanna, children Addison, Lilly, Jacob, and Makayla of Pueblo West, Colo.; and Paul Korte, wife Laura, and daughter Nora, of Fulton.
Also surviving are Ted’s sister, Marcella Bunten; sister-in-law Mercedes Behlmann; and brother-in-law Herman Twellman.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Albert (died in infancy), Ed, and Art Korte, sisters Gertrude Niemeyer, Till Deters, and Leona Miller.
Pallbearers will be his six grandsons, Stephen, Chris, Kurt, Paul, Michael, and Derek Korte.
