Vandalia citizens have the opportunity to pay their taxes here locally at a satellite office in Vandalia versus having to drive all the way to Mexico, thanks in part to Audrain County Collector Kate Becker.
December 18 was the first day to collect and more than 40 people stopped by and paid their taxes.
“For right now, we’re just testing it out to see if it will be cost effective to have one in Vandalia,” said Audrain County Collector Kate Becker.
Upcoming dates to pay taxes in Vandalia will be December 26-27 and 30-31. Fred Geerlings will be accepting payments from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Vandalia Public Library.
Not only can citizens pay their taxes locally, but they can also get receipts from past years payments. If there is an issue with the assessment, a call can be made to the county assessor to address the issue versus having to drive to Mexico.
“I think the people of Vandalia are excited for it, no one is excited to pay their taxes but the more you make it convenient for them the better” Becker added.
