Sylena Michelle Bagley was born December 5, 1961 in Mexico, Mo., to Norbert and Carolyn Bagley. Sylena passed away unexpectedly in her home on May 23, 2015, on St. Simons Island, Ga., a beautiful place where she loved the ocean and so many friends that were dear to her, and were saddened by her death.
She is survived by Carolyn Bagley; Norbert and Ann Bagley; uncles, aunts, cousins, and her paternal grandmother, Else Bagley, with who she recently celebrated a 95th birthday.
Sylena had a personality bigger than life, her optimism and laughter were contagious, and she could light up a room with her presence.
Her sense of humor, consideration of others and ability to bring people together were incredible qualities.
She graduated from Hickman High School in Columbia, Mo., as an honor student, cheerleader, and member of the swim team. She graduated from Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo., with honors, earning a Bachelor of Social Work degree.
She served as a volunteer with the Victim Center in Greene County, Mo. Upon graduation, she was employed as a deputy juvenile officer in Springfield, where she without question helped improve the lives of many young people.
She realized her lifelong dream to live by the ocean and for the past five years has been employed at St. Simons Health Center.
This is where she believed she belonged. We will now feel her spirit as the breeze blows through the beautiful live oaks draped with moss looking out over the Atlantic Ocean.
There was a celebration of life and brunch reception on Friday, May 29, 2015 on St. Simons Island.
She was preceded in death by grandparents Charles Bagley; Francis and Cleo Breneman; infant cousin Alicia Nicole Breneman; and uncle and aunt, Jim and Aileen Breneman.
