Suspected bandit on Seminary flees Mexico police

Posted on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 9:00 am

On Monday, March 8, 2021 at approximately 5:37 p.m., the Mexico Public Safety Department responded to the 200 block of Seminary in reference to an alert citizen reporting a suspicious person in the area.  Responding officers located Nicholas R Atkinson, age 35 of Mexico, in the area.  Atkinson had an outstanding Audrain County arrest warrant, and MPSD had been looking for him due to his alleged involvement in other recent crimes.  Atkinson ran from officers, cutting through several yards and jumping a fence, police said.  After reportedly running for about a block he gave up and was taken into custody without further incident.  Atkinson was processed at MPSD and taken to the Audrain County Jail for the warrant.  Additional charges will be forwarded to the Audrain County Prosecutor at a later date.

Everyone is reminded that people arrested / charged with a crime are simply accused of the crime and are to be considered innocent until proven guilty.
