After press time during the Van-Far R-I School District Board of Education’s regular January 22 meeting, Superintendent Chris Felmlee officially tendered a letter of resignation effective June 30.
Superintendent Felmlee said in an email statement he had been offered a superintendent’s position with Southern Boone County R-I School District, of which he accepted.
“I wish to express my utmost gratitude for allowing me the opportunity to serve each member of the board, the students and staff, as well as the community,” Superintendent Felmlee said in a draft letter to the board of education.
“We have had a long standing strong working relationship and I am very proud of our accomplishments. The educational program has consistently grown stronger as a result of the cooperation between the teachers and support staff, administration and members of the board and the community. Our focus has consistently remained on what is best for our students. I am exceedingly proud of the fact that the Van-Far School District has scored 93.6% on MSIP 5, the approval of the recent bond issue and completed construction to improve our buildings, and strengthened community relations between Vandalia, Farber, and the Community R-VI School District. This is a true testament to hard work everyone has accomplished.”
In his statement, he urged the board to contact the Missouri School Board Association to post the position and start the selection process for a new superintendent.
“Van-Far has an excellent staff and much support from its community,” Superintendent Felmlee said.
“I cannot express my thanks to the community and for their support over the years. This will be a difficult move for my family and me, but one of new opportunity.”
