Students from EMO Conference hold concert at Van-Far

Van-Far and Community R-VI choir members joined others from the EMO Conference to perform a concert on Thursday, November 21.

Van-Far and Community R-VI choir members joined others from the EMO Conference to perform a concert on Thursday, November 21.

High Schools from all around the area came together on Thursday, November 21 for the 2013 EMO All-Conference Choir event. After rehearsing all day, the combined choir performed Thursday evening in the Van-Far High School gymnasium.
The EMO All-Conference Choir sang “Bonse Aba,” a traditional Zambian Song, followed by “Omnia Sol” (Let Your Heart Be Staid), and “Music, Give Voice!”
The women sang “When I Am Silent,” followed by the men who sang “Tell My Father.” The last two songs sung by the choir was “Song for the Unsung Hero” and “Praise His Holy Name.”
Area Soprano choir members were Janie Swarthout(Van-Far), Naija Jackson (Van-Far), Baileigh Lucas- (Van-Far), Jayda Borgmeyer- (Van-Far), Daisja DeJesus (Van-Far), Emily Williams (Van-Far), Lakin Davenport (R-VI), Kelsey Hilderman- (R-VI), Annie Marshall (R-VI), and Amelia Knipfel (R-VI).
Local Alto choir members were Ashley Marshall (Van-Far), Christina Florea (Van-Far), Alexis DeTienne (Van-Far), Desiree Ruby(Van-Far), Autumn Sutton (Van-Far), Caylin Levings- (R-VI), Emmalee McCoskey (R-VI), Bianca Stafford (R-VI), Jewelee Winn (R-VI).
Area Tenor choir members were Carlton Summers- (Van-Far), Nick Crow (Van-Far), Tristan Hoeflicker (R-VI), Courtney Hoyt (R-VI), Olivia Mosley (R-VI), and Spencer Dry (R-VI).
Local Bass choir members were Brendan Flowers (Van-Far), Sharrod Connor (Van-Far), Logan Holt (Van-Far), Andrew Snodgrass (Van-Far), Aaron Johnson (R-VI), and Curtis Lierheimer (R-VI).
Community R-VI choir students, Knipfel, McCoskey, Stafford, and Lierheimer are four year conference choir participants.
Guest conductor and clinician for the EMO Conference Choir event was Dr. Ron Atteberry. He is an Assistant Professor of Voice and Choral Music at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo.
Atteberry retired as director of vocal music at Lebanon High School after 30 years. He also taught part-time for the Stoutland R-II Schools and served as an adjunct instructor for Drury University (Lebanon campus) and Southwest Baptist University.
His choirs have sung in Carnegie Hall twice, Toronto, Canada, England, and France. In London, the choir won the Gold Medal at the Anglo International Choral Festival. Under his direction, Lebanon High School Choirs have made two appearances before the Missouri Music Educators Association.
Dr. Atteberry recently retired as Choral Director for the Missouri Ambassadors of Music. These choirs have performed in London’s Wesley Chapel, Paris’ St. Sevrin, lnnsbruck’s Wilton Basilica and St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice. He regularly serves as a clinician and adjudicator. He has sung with the Springfield Little Theatre, the Springfield Regional Opera, and the Mid-America Singers.
