Devastating winds, reportedly reaching 60-70 m.p.h., caused significant destruction throughout the City of Laddonia early Tuesday, August 7.
Tree limbs and whole trees were down all over the town, one light post at Laddonia’s ballpark was snapped in pieces, and one resident had a tree destroy her home.
A corn field just outside the city limits also received significant damage.
“The City of Laddonia was hit with a storm whose winds made the city look like a war zone,” said Laddonia Mayor Monte Hanson.
“Very, very few residences in the city did not have some kind of damage. Trees lost limbs around the city by the hundreds. Many whole trees toppled over with cars and trucks underneath. One home was demolished. We were blessed that no one was injured due to the storm. Clean-up is underway and hopefully much of it will be accomplished by the end of this week.”
To help residents with the massive clean-up challenges, the City of Laddonia has hired two companies to help get downed trees and limbs cut and hauled away.
Clean-up efforts are still ongoing one week after the storm.
Marsha Garnett’s home was destroyed during the storm. A gofundme page has been set up to help her after her home was destroyed.
