Pike County Sheriff Stephen Korte releases the following information:
On January 17, a Pike County Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on Route NN near Pike 277 for a traffic violation. During the course of the stop, a passenger in the vehicle, Heather M. Stoops, 37, of rural Louisiana, was found to be in possession of marijuana.
Stoops was taken into custody and transported to the Pike County Jail. While in route to the jail, the Deputy asked if she had any more or other illegal drugs in her possession and that taking any contraband into the jail was a felony. She stated she did not have anything else. Once in the jail, Stoops was found to be in possession of another bag of marijuana.
Pike County Prosecutor Mark Fisher charged Stoops with the class C Felony of possession of a controlled substance in the premises of the Pike County Jail. Stoops was also charged with class A misdemeanor of possession of a controlled substance.
Bond was set at $25,000 by the Honorable Judge David Ash. Stoops was in custody at the Pike County jail at the time of this release.
All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
