SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital-Audrain is now offering the latest 3D mammography technology to detect the smallest breast cancers during the most treatable stage.
“Your risk of developing breast cancer increases with age, and many breast cancers do not produce symptoms,” said Kristy Hopper, manager of medical imaging services for SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital-Audrain. “3D mammography allows the radiologist to better distinguish masses or tissues that could be cancerous.”
The American Cancer Society continues to recommend annual screening using mammography and clinical breast examination for all women beginning at age 40.
Early detection requires a combination of breast exams and periodic mammograms according to your age and physician’s recommendations. The Women’s Imaging Center at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital–Audrain provides this new FDA-approved mammography technology along with other important diagnostic and screening services such as breast MRIs, diagnostic ultrasounds, breast biopsies, and bone density scans.
