SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital Audrain will open an Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit for seniors needing 24-hour monitoring for crisis stabilization of psychiatric symptoms in early 2016.
The program will provide patients access to staff who are specially trained to handle seniors in acute psychiatric crises with specialty training in caring for individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and other cognitive disorders.
Construction is underway for this unit and is expected to be complete in late 2015. Registered nurses, patient care technicians, and social workers will be hired for this new unit.
“We are very excited to offer this new service to our region,” said Chief Operating Officer Kari Wilson. “This addition will allow us to provide an enhanced level of care for seniors in our community. Our staff looks forward delivering exceptional care to older patients with these special needs.”
