SSM Health-St. Mary’s announces first 2017 birth

Clark Andelin, MD, delivered the baby girl at 1:15 a.m. on Monday, January 2.
OB staff assisting with the labor and delivery were Erica Goodwin, RN, and Jessica Hooks, RN.
Baby Lela Malyn weighed 5 lbs. 6 oz. and was born to Sonya Johnston and Matt Johnson of Perry, Mo.
The  couple also has a son Lukas.
The hospital presented the family with a congratulatory basket with items from local businesses including a gift card from Melody’s Quality Jewelry; a makeup from Sachey Lashes; a gift from David Pickering Photography; a dozen red roses from      Garden Gate; blanket, hat, picture frame, swaddlers, teddy bear, and a toy from St. Mary’s Hospital-Audrain Auxiliary; a case of diapers and a sleep sack from St. Mary’s Hospital-Audrain OB Department; a spa gift card from Merle Norman; a gift card from Vega’s Burritos; a baby blanket and bear rattle from        Martha Rose; and a gift card from         Jim Stubblefield.
“It’s always exciting to welcome the first baby of the new year,” said Ashley Curtis, interim director of Women’s and Children’s Services for the hospital.
“We strive to provide an exceptional birthing experience for our mothers and their families.”
Blessed Beginnings Women’s and Children’s Services at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital-Audrain offers three labor and delivery suites, five postpartum rooms, and one C-section room.
The center also boasts a Level II Nursery equipped to handle more complicated births, exceptional board-certified physicians, staff trained to assist with lactation concerns, and a 24/7 team of anesthesiologists to manage pain.
