Special Memorial Day Service held by First Christian Church

Members of the Color Guard from American Legion Post No. 510 present the colors during a special service at the Vandalia Area Fairgrounds.

The First Christian Church of Vandalia held a community Memorial Day Service Sunday evening on May 27 at 6 p.m. at the Vandalia Area Fairgrounds.
Several area residents attended the event under the pavilion and sat on picnic tables decorated with American flag table cloths.
The event opened with Pastor Jamie Franke giving the opening prayer.
Veterans from the American Legion Post No. 510 presented the colors before Rebekah Embree sang the “National Anthem.” Pledges were then led for the Bible, the Christian flag, and the American flag. A moment of silence was followed by Ethan Winders playing “Taps.” A moment of recognition was then given to the men and women who have served in the military.
Tim Embree then gave a prayer of Thanksgiving.
Pastor Jamie Franke gave a message to those in attendance.
Walker Franke followed with a special prayer for the country.
Marvin Yager said the closing prayer.
After the colors were retired, those in attendance joined together in singing “God Bless America.”
“Thank You’s” were given to the Vandalia Fairgrounds for use of the facility for the event. Pastor Franke also thanked Kevin Morris for the use of the sound equipment. He thanked the American Legion Post No. 510 for the Color Guard
The event also featured a special picnic at the conclusion of the ceremony.
