Seven Practical Nursing students at the Moberly and Mexico campuses of Moberly Area Community College have received the Ruth Foree Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $520.
Ruth Weilmuenster Foree was a non-traditional nursing student from Farber, Mo.
As a single mother with two young sons, she decided to attend nursing school through the Audrain Medical Center Practical Nursing program. Her parents agreed to help take care of her children and assisted her financially.
Ruth married Dennis Foree, completed the Practical Nursing program, and began working for Audrain Medical Center (AMC) in 1978. She remained a loyal employee of AMC, now SSM-Audrain, until her retirement in April of 2015.
The majority of Mrs. Foree’s career was spent in caring for patients receiving long-term care services at AMC’s Stribling House. Following its closure, she spent time working the medical unit located on Two West. She left the hospital setting to work at Dr. Barjenbruch’s office and eventually ended her career as a nurse working for Dr. Trone in the SSM-Audrain Medical Clinic, in Vandalia. She died, October 3, 2016, at SSM-Audrain after a year-long battle with lung cancer.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Foree, appreciated her genuine love for her patients, her attention to detail, her constant commitment to patient care, and her ability to make everyone smile, no matter how ill they were. She loved her job and her co-workers. Her nurturing spirit was evident in every aspect of her life.
Congratulations to these winners of the Forsee Memorial Scholarship on the Mexico campus: Sally Brookshier, of Vandalia; Kristen Grimm and Laken Riley, both of Mexico.
On the Moberly campus, winners were Megan Harris, of Renick, Mo.; Robyn Purdy, of Madison, Mo.; and Kayla Scrogin and Allison Zike, both of Moberly.
