With Thanksgiving in our rearview mirror, the blitz to Christmas is in front of us for the next four weeks.
While many area residents will make many purchases online or out of town, I do want to encourage everyone to find ways to shop close to home.
Our newspaper will be producing our annual “Shop Vandalia” spread in the December 6 issue.
This should help customers in making some of their purchasing decisions. We also had some holiday specials in our November 22 issue.
Local retail establishments in Vandalia are featuring sales throughout this holiday season and all of us should make efforts to spend some of our money close to home.
While many shoppers may think they are saving money on some purchases by going out of town, they may not be figuring into their equation the gas it takes to get there, eating out, etc.
So why not just save the trip and use a local business that’s just a few blocks away from home?
I don’t anticipate folks shopping local for their entire shopping lilst. My hope is, however, that many residents will make a significant effort to keep some of their money in town to help out our local business owners. We should be thankful for these folks having their doors open to us. Let’s be sure to say thank you by shopping for Christmas presents there during this holiday season.
One Christmas gift idea lasts through this Friday at “The Vandalia Leader.” Our newspaper is offering an opportunity to purchase or renew a subscription and then receive a second subscription of equal or lesser value to give away as a gift. We also have a cute gift card to give you representing your purchase.
