Several locals excel at State Fair

Pacey Cope, 11, of Martinsburg, received Champion Hampshire and Overall Hampshire in the 4-H Barrow Show at the 2016 Missouri State Fair on August 12. Pacey is the son of Aaron and Mandy Cope and is in the 6th grade.

Several area residents earned awards in contest held at this year’s Missouri State Fair in August.
Below is a list of the award winners:
• Chase Monte, age 17, of Mexico, received Reserve Champion Division Senior Calf in the FFA Show at the 2016 Missouri State Fair on August 11. Chase is the son of Kim and Dan Monte and is a senior at Mexico High School. He was also second in the Livestock competition (No. 20) Heifers category and second in the No. 24 Heifers category.
• Ally Troesser, age 15, of Laddonia, received Champion Heavy Weight Gilt Crossbred in the FFA Swine Show at the 2016 Missouri State Fair on August 20. Ally is the daughter of Daniel and Jenny Troesser and is a sophomore in high School. Troesser was also third in Duroc Barrows On-Foot (Jan. 1-March 31).
• In the Equine Competition, Jen Simmons, of Mexico, was third in the Five-Gaited Open Mare (Kate Ray Kuhn). • As for the 4-H Competition, Ana Minick, of Mexico, won the Barrels 15 and over (horses/mules over 56 inches) contest and placed second Pole Bending 15 and over (horse/mules over 56 inches) in the 4-H & FFA Horse Show.
• Katy Horner, of Curryville, was fifth place in the Ranch Riding 15 and over contest.
• Pacey Cope, age 11, of Martinsburg, received Champion Hampshire and Overall Hampshire in the 4-H Barrow Show. Pacey is the son of Aaron and Mandy Cope and is in the 6th grade. Cope was also fourth in the Berkshire Barrows/4-H Show in the Berkshire On-Foot Barrows (Jan. 1, 2016 and after) category.
• Alexis Koelling, of Curryville, was first in the Beef Cattle/4-H Show category of Summer Yearling Heifer (calved May 1, 2015-June 30, 2015); was third in the Winter Heifer Calf (calved Nov. 1, 2015-Dec. 31, 2015); and she was first in the Heifers category of the Livestock competition (No. 18 category).
• Lance Fort, of Martinsburg, was third in the Beef Cattle/4-H Show for April Yearling Heifer (calved April 2015)
• Clara Wallace, of Vandalia, took second and third place in the Crossbred Steer class.
• Abbie Waddell, of Curryville, was fourth in the Spot Gilt category from the Swine/4-H Show, and fifth in the Chester White On-Foot Barrows (Jan. 1, 2016 and after).
• Ashlee Waddell, of Curryville, was fourth in Berkshier Gilts (Dec. 1-March 31).
• Elise Bailey, of Curryville, was third for Chester White Barrows On-Foot (Jan. 1-March 31).
• Brant Cope was first in the Other Purebreds Gilt category from the Swine/4-H Show; took fourth in the Crossbred Gilt (Dec. 1, 2015 and after).
• Ethan Fort was third in the Yorkshire Gilt category from the Swine/4-H Show and fifth in Yorkshire Gilts (Dec. 1-March 31).
• In the Livestock competition, Robert Dycus, of Mexico, won state titles in the during the Poultry Open Show. He took first in the Silver Duckwing Old English Game-Cockerel; was first and second in the Silver Duckwing Old English Game-Hen; placed second in the Silver Duckwing Old English Game-Pullet; took second in the Spangles Old English Game-Cockerel; second in the Spangled Old English Game-Hen; and third in the Spangled Old English Game-Pullet.
• Walker Dycus, of Mexico, won a couple of State Fair titles in the Poultry Open Show. He was first in the Silver Sebright-Cock; first in the Sliver Sebright-Cockerel; and was fifth in the Black Cochin-Hen.
• William Nation was third in the Spring Yearling Bull (calved March 1, 2015-April 30, 2015) and fifth in the Senior Bull Calf (calved Aug. 1, 2015-Oct. 31, 2015) competition.
• Renee Nelson was second in the Lean-Retail Division of the Livestock Competition.
• Ralph Nelson was fifth in the Adult Live Evaluation (Steer, 18 years old and over).
• In the Sheep Show, Abilene Gatson, of Vandalia, had the Montadale Champion Ram; won Montadale Best Pair; won the Hampshire Pair Ram Lambs contest; won the Montadale Yearling Ram contest; took first in Montadale Best Pair; second in Montadale Pair Ewe Lambs; was second in the Hampshire Junior Ram Lamb contest; took second in the Montadale Senior Ram Lamb; was second in the Hampshire Pair Ewe Lambs; took second and third in the Hampshire Yearling Ewe; was third in the Montadale Junior Ram Lamb contest; took third in the Montadale Pair Ram Lambs; was third in Southdown Pair Yearling Ewes; took third and fifth in Montadale Yearling Ewe; was fourth in the Montadale Pair Yearling Ewes; placed second and fourth in Montadale Junior Ewe Lamb; was fourth in Montadale Pen of 4 Lambs; and was fifth in Southdown Breeder Flock.
• Hunter Houghton, of Martinsburg, took third in the Sheep Show for Hampshire Intermediate Ewe Lamb; took fourth in the Hampshire Best Pair; and was fifth in the Hampshire Pair Ewe Lambs.
• Baugh & Dunn, of Middletown, had the Montadale Reserve Champion Ram; was second in the Montadale Yearling Ram; took third in the Montadale Pair Yearling Ewes; third in Montadale Pair Ewe Lambs; was third in the Montadale Breeder Flock event; took fourth in the Montadale Senior Ram Lamb; placed fourth in the Montadale Junior Ram Lamb contest; fourth in the Montadale Pair Ram Lambs; and took second and third in Montadale Senior Ewe Lamb.
• Kellen Ekern, of Mexico, was named the Montadale Premier Breeder; had the Montadale Champion Ewe and Reserve Champion Ewe; took first in Montadale Pair Ram Lambs; first in Montadale Pen of 4 Lambs; first in Montadale Pair Ewe Lambs; was first in the Montadale Senior Ewe Lamb; was first in the Montadale Pair Yearling Ewes; took first and third in Montadale Junior Ewe Lamb; was first and fourth in Montadale Yearling Ewe; was second in the Montadale Best Pair; and was second and fifth in the Montadale Junior Ram Lamb category of the Sheep Show.
• Mackenzie Stumpe, of Mexico, Mo., was first in the Tunis Senior Ram Lamb contest in the Sheep Show. She was also first and fourth in Tunis Junior Ram Lamb; took first in Tunis Pair Ram Lambs; second in Tunis Pair Ewe Lambs; second in the Tunis Yearling Ram contest; third in Tunis Breeder Flock; second for Tunis Pen 4 of Lambs; fourth in Tunis Yearling Ewe; fourth in Tunis Pair Yearling Ewes; fourth in Tunis Junior Ewe Lamb;  and fourth for Tunis Best Pair.
• Logan Wilson was fifth in Duroc Gilts (Dec. 1-March 31).
• Caroline Schafer, of Martinsburg, placed third in Crossbred Gilts (Dec. 1-March 31) and fourth in Crossbred Gilts (Dec. 1-March 31).
• Paige Dameron, of Vandalia, was third in Crossbred Gilts (Dec. 1-March 31).
• Tayler Cope was fifth for Crossbred Barrows On-Foot (Jan. 1-March 31).
• George Niemeyer, of Curryville, won first in Barrows On-Foot and Carcass.
Miscellaneous
• In the Home Economics: Foods contest, Susan Risenhoover, of Martinsburg, won first place in the wreath (any occasion) contest. She was also first in photography; third in the coffee cake with topping (1) contest; third in the old books contest; third in the “Any Floral Arrangement” contest (not fresh, not to exceed 16×20 inches); and third for music memorabilia (not more than three pieces).
• Stanton Evans placed third in the decorated gift jars and/or boxes) contest.
• The Mexico FFA was fifth in the Whole Muscle Jerky Treats contest.
• In the Truck and Tractor Pull, Michael Ahrens, of Mexico, was second in the 4,500 lbs. class.  He was fifth in the Antique Tractor Pull for 3,250 lbs.
• Donnie Schwartz, of Martinsburg, was third in the 5,000 lbs. and fourth in the 4,500-lbs. class of the Truck and Tractor Pull.
• Missy Ahrens, of Mexico, won the 5,000 lbs. Truck and Tractor Pull.
• Andrew Crum Jr., of Mexico, was third in the Antique Tractor Pull for 4,000 lbs. and was fifth in the 4,500 lbs.
• L.L. Ahrens, of Mexico, was third in the Antique Tractor Pull for 5,500 lbs. and was fifth in the Antique Tractor Pull for 4,000 lbs.
• In the Farm Class Tractor Pull, Ross Davis, of Martinsburg, was second in the 12,500 lbs. class and fifth in the same class.
• In the Farm Class Tractor Pull, Edward Babb, of Farber, was third in the 11,500 lbs. class and third in the 12,500 lbs. class.
• Craig Martin, of Vandalia, was fourth in the Truck and Tractor AM Pull for 6,200 lbs. NA 2WD Trucks.
• Mark Klott, of Curryville, won the Truck and Tractor AM Pull for 6,500 lbs. Pro and Super Stock Tractor.
