On Saturday, July 30 at the American Legion Hall, south of Laddonia, 33 former students and guests attended the 13th “Old” Laddonia School Reunion. The school closed in 1953 and this reunion is held every two years on the last Saturday in July. They began arriving from North Carolina, Kentucky, and throughout Missouri at about 10 a.m.  They registered, got their name tags, looked at old pictures, read letters from those unable to attend, visited, and renewed friendships.
Dorothy Ross Sisson, organizer, welcomed each one. She read a poem, “And Then It Is Winter.” Each Laddonia alumni introduced themselves and their guest and told about themselves. Former students attending were Janet Smith Carson, Janice Potter Erdel, Nancy Smith Wyss, Doris Wright Gore, from Mexico; Helen Garnett Fitzgerald, from Monroe City; Jack Folta, Elwood and Beverly Teague LaRue, Joe and Alma Jo Bigelow Remley, Delores Dubray Williams, Max Kennen, Diane Garnett Hardin, from Laddonia; Ronald Galloway and Dale Talbott, from Vandalia; John Garnett, from St. Louis; Robert Garnett, from Greensboro, N.C.; Jim Latimer, from Louisville, Kent.; Martha Denmark Price, from Jefferson City; Dorothy Ross Sisson, from Bowling Green; and Harold Todd, from Wellsville.
Guests attending were Paul Carson, Tom Fitzgerald, Ann Wasson, Norma Galloway, Peggy Garnett, Lee Gore, Carolyn Latimer, Betty Evans, Charles and Monica King, Joe Williams, and Wanda Garnett. A Memorial Service was conducted for those deceased since the last reunion. Mrs. Sisson read a poem and then Nancy Wyss lit a candle as each name was read. The deceased were Betty Johnson Dixon, Lee Douglas Erdel, Chester Harlie Fritch, Clarence Eugene Phears, Harold Wayne Todd, Doris Jean Schmidt Woodruff, Carol Cox Tiller, and Dorothy Cox, who was a teacher.
A meal catered by Mike Soey Catering in Vandalia was served at noon and enjoyed by all. The blessing was said by Elwood LaRue. Door prizes were given to Robert Garnett for traveling the farthest, Wanda Garnett as the oldest person, and Lola Duffen for being the first to respond to the invitation. It was agreed upon to have another reunion on the last Saturday in July 2018.
