Several Christmas activities scheduled in Vandalia area

NEWS---FARBER-TREE-LIGHTING4There are several Christmas events and activities for Vandalia area residents to enjoy in the next two weeks.
Community R-VI Concerts – December
4 and 11
The Community R-VI Elementary Music Program is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, December 4 at the district.
One week later, grades 6-12 will hold a Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 11 at 6:30 p.m.
Santa Claus in Farber on December 6
The Farber Community Betterment is hosting the Tree Lighting Service on December 6 at the Farber Community Building.
The festivities begin at 5 p.m. with the reading of “The Real Story of Christmas” after which will be the official lighting of the tree.
At 5:30 p.m., Santa Claus arrives and at 6 p.m. a movie will be shown along with refreshments being served. Tom Wright will be in charge of the Christmas music. Everything is free and everyone is welcome.
Santa Claus to visit
Martinsburg on
December 7
Santa Claus is coming to Martinsburg riding at fire truck at 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 7 at the Martinsburg Fire House.
Those attending are encouraged to bring their camera to take photos with Santa.
There will be treats for the children. A drawing will be held for $25 gift certificates. Santa Claus’ visit is sponsored by the City of Martinsburg and the Martinsburg Fire Department.
The Martinsburg Community Betterment (MACB) is sponsoring a Memory Tree Lighting at 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 7 at the Nativity Scene in downtown Martinsburg.
There will be refreshment and acknowledgement of loved ones in the Martinsburg Community Room.
Area residents can also purchase $5 dove ornaments for a Memory Tree to remember loved ones. Purchases can be made from any MACB member or at the Martinsburg Library, Fennewald Pump Service, Ultimate Image, The Finishing Touch, or Fennewald Welding.
Orders must be placed no later than Wednesday, December 3.
Mexico Village Square event December 11
Under the theme “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” the Village Square in downtown Mexico is hosting an event to feature living windows from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 11.
There will be more than 15 store windows with displays.
The event features bands, choir groups, a Christmas train to ride for children, the Janet’s Dance group, theatrical group, a puppet show, fashion models, and lots more.
Van-Far Concerts –
December 11, 15, 16
The Van-Far Elementary Grades 2-4 Concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 11.
Then on Monday, December 15, Grades K-1 perform their concert at the elementary school at 7 p.m. Grades 5-6 will perform at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16.
YMCA event Dec. 13
The Eastern Missouri Family YMCA is holding a “Kids Day Out” program on Saturday, December 13 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Vandalia Play Care Facility. It is located at 115 W. Walsh in Vandalia.
The event offers area residents the opportunity to enjoy a day without the hassle of finding a babysitter to Christmas shop, bake, wrap gifts, or just have the day to yourself.
There are only 30 spots available at a cost of $25 on a first come, first serve basis.
Kids must be ages 3-12 years old. Those interested must pre-register and pay by December 12.
