Three Memorial Day services at local cemeteries in Vandalia and Farber were followed by an annual service to honor veterans at the VFW Post. No. 2173 this past Monday.
Larry Shaw gave the welcome and opening comments. The Reverend Robert Hoehn, of Spencer Creek Baptist Church, followed with the invocation while the Presentation of Colors was given by the VFW Post.
Kevin Morris sang the “National Anthem” and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Shaw. The St. Cecelia Music Club sang “God Bless America.”
Shaw introduced the guest speaker, the Reverend Helen McFarland.
After the Reverend McFarland spoke, the St. Cecelia Music Club did sing, “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and the VFW Post and Auxiliary presented the Gravesite Service.
Afterward, the VFW Post gave a Rifle Salute and “Taps and Echo” was played by Ethan Winders.
