During its June 29 meeting, the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Commission officially approved its Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for 2018-2022.
Two items on the long list for the Northeast District includes improvements to both Scott’s Corner and Basinger Corner.
The Basinger Corner job notes $939,000 in open container funds on the highway and bridge construction schedule.
Tom Batenhorst, MoDOT Northeast District Planning Manager, said once a project is scheduled on the STIP with dollars attached to it, the move means the project will get completed.
Batenhorst also did say the dollars are marked for improvements and do not necessarily mean roundabouts will be the chosen method for those two intersections.
The Citizens Advisory Group (CAG) has held multiple meetings to discuss the two intersections. It was noted that there have been 20 total crashes, one disabling, and one fatality at Scott’s Corner since 2011. There have been 26 total crashes, six disabling, and one fatality at Basinger Corner during the same time. Many possibilities have been discussed but some focus of the CAG was geared towards possible high-speed roundabouts at both intersections. The proposed date for funding is 2020.
