Scott Patrick McGinnis, age 45, of Bowling Green passed away suddenly June 19, 2015 at his residence in Bowling Green. Funeral services will be held 7 p.m., Thursday, June 25, at the Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Rev. Clay Boley officiating. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post #5553 and the Missouri Military Honors Team from Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis.
Scott was born Jan. 20, 1970 in Canton, Ill.the son of John Scott and Karen Dearing Noland. On March 15, 1991 in Monterey, Calif.he married Jutta H. Knight. She survives. Other survivors are his mother, Karen Noland and stepfather Larry Noland of Cuba, Ill.; son Scott Nathaniel McGinnis; daughter Sarah Gabrielle McGinnis; brother John Allen McGinnis of St. Peters; stepmother Lynn McGinnis of Columbia; and best friend Kris Valenti of Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his father John Scott McGinnis; brother Brian Scott McGinnis; and grandparents Scott and Alice McGinnis.
Scott served his country in the United States Army, serving during Desert Storm He was stationed at Ft. ORD, Calif.; Ft. Benning, Ga., and Ft. Riley, Kan. (1st infantry Division). Scott was deployed to Cuba during Haitian Refugee crisis and was one of the few full time Army units (A Co 2/27) to be deployed to the L.A. Riots. Upon his honorable discharge, Scott lived in the Bowling Green and Vandalia area where he worked for 18 plus years as an employee of the Department of Corrections.
Scott was an outstanding father. His favorite pastimes were traveling with his wife Jutta and his son and daughter, Scott and Sarah. He loved showing his children new places and experiences. He loved telling his children stories about his travels to Minnesota on camping trips with his father and grandfather, when he was young. Scott loved teaching his children to shoot and fish. He was a loyal husband and friend who will be greatly missed.
