Schlemmers recognized by area USDA

After seven years of service, Jo Beth Schlemmer is retiring as the manager of Laddonia Leisure Manor, Inc. On May 7, 2013, Jo Beth and John Schlemmer were presented with certificates of appreciation by Jacqueline Barker, USDA Rural Development Specialist of the Mexico office.
Jo Beth took over the duties as the manager of Laddonia Leisure Manor in 2006.  She was asked to take this position on a temporary basis for two months, which turned into seven years.  Her husband, John Schlemmer, has also been very involved in assisting with the management, particularly with the automation aspects and maintenance.
Under Jo Beth’s leadership, the complex has received an almost complete facelift, from new floor covering and appliances in most units, to new roofs, with several windows also replaced.  Her creative decorating of the community room and laundry area has been used as an example across the state of what can be done to make affordable housing attractive and enjoyable.  She has demonstrated quite a talent for accomplishing all of these upgrades while being very thrifty, always looking for bargains for the complex and the tenants.  There have been many instances of both of the Schlemmers going above and beyond in their service to Laddonia Leisure Manor and its residents.  They have set a precedent of how to make rental property feel like home.
Laddonia Leisure is composed of 12 one bedroom apartments for family households.  This not-for-profit has worked hard over the years to keep the rents affordable for the tenants, while maintaining the property in good condition.  The Board of Directors has been very active, and supportive of this mission.
