RUSSELL BRYAN (SONNY) MITCHELL

Services for Russell Bryan (Sonny) Mitchell, 78, of New Hartford, formerly of Laddonia, was held at 11 a.m., Monday, November 25, 2013 at Bienhoff Funeral Home in Laddonia with the Reverend Randall Cone officiating. Burial was in Laddonia Cemetery with military rites provided by Laddonia American Legion Post No. 510.
Visitation was on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Mitchell passed away at 5:11 a.m. November 23, 2013 at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.
He was born December 10, 1934 in Mexico, the son of Russell Bryan and Gladys Marie Pfister Mitchell.
He was married to Alma Rentfro on November 6, 1958 in Laddonia and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Jeff (Connie) Mitchell, of New Hartford; two daughters, Marcia Becker of Laddonia, and Lisa (Darrell) Davis of Hope, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Chad Allen (Sabrina Jones) Smith, Stephanie Mitchell, Clay (Micah) Becker, Craig Becker, Whitney Becker, Nicholas (Lara) Perry, and Jennifer (Cole) Law; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six sisters, Martha Whirley, Alma Lee Dunham, Lorene Montague, Loretta Beahan, Betty Lou Mitchell, and Elizabeth Dudley.
Mr. Mitchell was a lifetime area resident and was Christian by faith. He served in the US Army during the Korean War from March 4, 1952 to March 3, 1955 and attained the rank of Corporal. He worked as a maintenance welder at NARCO Refractories, Fowles Grain, and MFA. He was a member of the Laddonia American Legion Post  #510, and a lifetime member of the Perry VFW Post 4088. He enjoyed welding and fishing. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice.
