ROY E. MOORE

Roy Eugene Moore, age 70, of Vandalia, passed away at 5:10 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia.
Visitation was held on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 3-6 p.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia.
Services were held on
Monday, December 30, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Vandalia.
Officiating was Pastor Roger Huff and Pastor Jamie Franke.
Music was provided by Roy and Wayne Lynn – duet; Barbara Elzea – organist.
Interment was in the Center Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim Mac Elzea, Marvin Soey, Floyd Vogt, George Riley, Willam Barber, and Edward Becker. Honorary pallbearers were Joey Hamlett, Jeff Moore, Corey Moore, Andrew Moore, and Larry Peery.
Roy Eugene Moore was born on May 29, 1943 in Gazette, Mo., the son of H. Vernon and Ruth Evelyn (Robinson) Moore.
He married Karen Sue Stark on August 4, 1963 in Novelty, Mo.; she preceded him in death on September 6, 2006.
He was a lifelong Vandalia area resident growing up on the family’s farm. Roy was a 1961 Van-Far High School graduate and attended Moberly Christian College for two years.
He started working at Harbison Walker Refractories in Vandalia in 1963.
Roy retired from the plant in 2009 after working over 45 years, most of that time working in the lab.
All through the years, Roy continued to help work on the family’s farm.
He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Vandalia. Roy had also been active coaching Khoury League baseball, serving on the Vandalia Municipal Pool Board and as secretary of Local No. 853.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, attending the grandkids activities and raising his livestock.
Survivors include his father, H. Vernon Moore, of rural Vandalia; two sons, Robert E. and wife Lisa Moore of Washington, Mo.; Alan A. and wife Paula Moore, of Vandalia; one brother, Rex and wife Debbie Moore, of rural Vandalia; one sister Deborah Hilsabeck, of rural Vandalia; seven grandchildren, Kayla Moore, Patrick Moore, Kali Alexander, Zane Moore, Stacia Moore, Paula Moore, and Rebecca Moore; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth; wife Karen; one brother, Larry Moore; two nephews, Bryan Hilsabeck and Stacey Hilsabeck.
