Robert W. “Pete” Allen

Robert W. “Pete” Allen, age 86, of Vandalia, passed away at 4:43 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Audrain Medical Center in Mexico, Mo.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 18, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia.
Services will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel.
Officiating will be the Rev. Bob Hoehn.
Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be Michael Atkinson, Trey Atkinson, Matt Shramek, Clint Allen, Brandon LaRue, David Hays, and Chad Moran.
Robert W. “Pete” Allen was born on December 8, 1926 in Crookston, Neb., the son of Richard Norton and Madge M. (Whiteside) Allen.
He married Alta Mae Butler on September 27, 1949 in Montgomery City, Mo.; she preceded him in death on February 26, 2011.
Pete attended area schools and moved from Middletown to Vandalia over 50 years ago. He then started working as a kiln burner at CE Refractories in Farber, retiring in 1982. Pete was a lifetime member of Vandalia VFW Post No. 2173 and the American Legion.
Survivors include three sons, Rick and wife, Glenda Allen of Vandalia; Nick Allen of Vandalia; Tim and wife, Dottie Allen of Mexico; three daughters, Terry Allen and Ronnie Moore of rural Vandalia; Debbie and husband, Bill Shramek of Perry; Nancy and husband, Robert Stotler of rural Vandalia; one sister Carol Johnson of Vandalia; 13 grandchildren, Michael Atkinson, Shonda Suddarth, Clint Allen, April Randy, Matt Shramek, Melissa Allen, Jessica Allen, Ronni Kay Motley, Shelby Allen, Brooke Allen, Alisha Hays, Stacy Branstetter and Lynette Chrisman; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alta; one infant daughter; three brothers; three sisters; one grandson, Blake Allen; son-in-law, Ronnie Motley Jr.
