Rita Catherine Maiden, 85, of Atkins, Ark., formerly of Curryville, Vandalia, and Bowling Green area, passed away April 6, 2012, at Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville, Ark.
Funeral services are being held Wednesday April 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the New Harmony Christian Church with Pastor Dawn Marie Turner officiating. Visitation was Tuesday April 10, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
Mrs. Maiden was born August 7, 1926 in Curryville, the daughter of William Ira  and Eva Catherine (Williamson) Bridwell. On April 23, 1949 she married Oran Vernon Maiden at the First Christian Church in Vandalia. Mr. Maiden preceded her in death in October 1982.
Mrs. Maiden is survived by one son, James Maiden of Clarksville, Ark.; one daughter, Vernita Genovese and husband, Walter, of Vandalia. Mrs. Maiden has seven grandchildren, Brandy, Christina, James and Aaron Maiden; Jessica Richard and husband, Tom; Olivia Leavell and husband, Cody, and Tasha Genovese. She has nine great-grandchildren, Samuel and Abigail Miller, Madalynn and Zackery Kendrick, Dakota and Dallas Richard, Anna Rubemeyer, Dravyn and Dastyn Leavell. One brother-in-law, Vernon and wife, Carolyn Bailey, and one brother-in-law, Ralph Robertson. She was preceded in death by one brother, Herchel Bridwell.
She spent most of her life in the Curryville, Vandalia and the Bowling Green areas except for living in Atkins, Ark. for the past year. She taught school in the country and public schools in the area for 49 years and was a member of the Missouri Retired Teachers Organization.
Mrs. Maiden was a member of the New Harmony Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she had a perfect attendance for 59 years, taught Sunday School for 49 years and was the first female Church Elder at New Harmony.
She enjoyed being a longtime volunteer at the Hope Center until her health prevented and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be James Maiden, Jr., Aaron Maiden, Linda Kendrick, Tom Richard, Kenny Everhart and Marvin L. Perkins. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Dakota Richard, Dallas Richard, Vernon Bailey, Lonnie Bailey, Cody Leavell and Ralph Robertson.
