Region IV STAR Events

Twelve of Van-Far R-1 High School students participated in Region IV STAR Events held t Montgomery City, Missouri on Monday, January 28, 2013 hosted by Montgomery County High School. The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and social issues through Family Consumer Sciences education. STAR Events, (Students Taking Action with Recognition) is a FCCLA program of competitive events designed to recognize individuals and chapters for their proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills and occupational preparation.

Each year regional contests are held in various subject areas whereby the Gold Medal winners advance to state competition and possibly on to national competition. The following students from Van-Far competed in the corresponding events: Katelyn Allen, Brooke James, and Breanna Strange received Silver in the Sr. division on their Entrepreneurship STAR Events. Haven Atkinson received Gold in the Sr.  division of her Job Interview STAR Event.

Austin Brewster and Logan Fowler received Silver in the Sr. category on their Applied Technology STAR Event.

Hayley Carpenter received Gold in the Sr. of her Recycle, Redesign, and Reuse STAR Event. Nicole Harvey and Dani Lucas received Gold in the Sr. category on their Chapters in Action STAR Event.

Amber Moss received Gold in the Sr. category on her Job Interview STAR Event. Abbey Robinson received Gold in the Jr category on her Focus on Children STAR Event. Kenedy Hays and Hailey Hopke went as voting delegates and room consultants, Kristin Beatty served as a judge to the STAR Events completion.
