Ralph J. Norton, 83, of Silex, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015 at the Lincoln County Nursing and Rehab facility in Troy.
A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Tichacek officiating. Burial will be in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery with Military Honors being conducted by Bowling Green VFW Post #5553 and Missouri Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bibb-Veach Funeral Home in Silex.
Ralph was born Jan. 2, 1932, in Silex, the son of Robert L and Nellie Ann Donely Norton.
He married Betty Sue Colbert in Millwood on Nov. 23, 1957. She survives. Other survivors include sons Steve Norton and Mike Norton and wife Janet all of Silex; daughters Leanne Norton-Heintz (Kevin) of Apex, North Carolina and Linell Shramek (Robert) of Warrenton; seven grandchildren Ryan Norton, Jessica Norton, Walker Peatross, Gabrielle Peatross, Anna Heintz, Jaimie Heintz, and A.J. Heintz; brother Dan Norton (Sally) of Silex.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Bobby Norton and Roger Joseph Norton; three sisters Norma Zalabak, Mary Ann Bobeen, and Dorothy Nell Norton.
Ralph lived and farmed all of his life near the home place on Norton Road. He served his country during the Korean War from December 1952 until 1954. He was a member of the Hawk Point VFW Post # 7560 where he served as a commander.
He was also a member of the Production Credit Association.
Ralph drove the bus for the Silex School District for 10 years and enjoyed getting to know the children greatly. He enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River and at the Lake of the Ozarks. He loved being with his family and grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Norton, Walker Peatross, Sam Norton, Larry Zalabak, Leon Norton, and Paul Bobeen. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be A.J. Hientz and Lyndall Bartels.
