The Community R-VI Trojans picked up their fourth win of the season last week when they hosted Silex and picked up a big 59-55 victory.
Silex took control of the game early by taking an 18-12 lead before the Trojans’ defense held the Owls to just five points before halftime.
Community R-VI led 31-23 at the halfway point and held off a late Silex run to win the game by four.
The Trojans made 17-of-26 free throws in the win. Four players scored in double figures.
Cordell Hollensteiner scored a team-high 16 points, five rebounds, and two assists while Matt Gastler had 15 points, one rebound, and one steal.
Anthony Fairchild tallied 11 points, six rebounds, and one steal; Bobby Jett added 11 points and one rebound; Gage Graves added five points, three rebounds, and one block; Gatlin Curtis scored one point, two steals, and two rebounds; and Jamie Householder finished with one rebound.
Defensively, Gastler and Curtis each had six deflections/tips.
Homecoming loss to Montgomery County
On Friday night, the Trojans lost their Homecoming match-up with Montgomery County, 86-60.
The Trojans trailed by just five points after the first quarter before being outscored 66-45 in the final three quarters.
“Could not stop Parrish, he was the big difference but we are getting scoring from more players, which will help us in the long run,” Community R-VI head coach Ken Jett said.
Hollensteiner finished with 20 points, Fairchild had 18, Curtis added eight, Graves scored five points, Jett had four points, Gastler had three points, and Eric Hombs scored two points.
Falling to Westran
In a game played at Moberly Area Community College, the Trojans ran into a tough Westran team and lost 77-46.
Westran used a 21-8 second quarter to take a 39-21 halftime lead.
Westran then outscored Community R-VI 38-25 in the second half to seal the 31-point win.
Hollensteiner led the Trojans with 12 points, two steals, and one rebound; Jett had nine points and five rebounds; Graves scored nine points and two rebounds; Fairchild had seven points; Gastler had six points, four rebounds, and one block; Curtis tallied three points, one rebound, and one steal; Hombs had three rebounds and one block; and Nathan Gastler had two rebounds.
