The Community R-VI boys basketball team dropped a pair of EMO Conference games last week as their record fell to 7-13 overall on the season.
Their first loss came against Clopton, 62-55.
Community R-VI led by four at the end of the first quarter behind three Bobby Jett 3-pointers.
The Trojans made three more 3-pointers just before halftime to hold a two-point lead at the break.
It was a three point game with 2:30 left in the fourth quarter before the Hawks pulled away at the free throw line.
They made 10-of-16 free throws in the fourth to win the game by seven after four players scored in double figures.
“We had a hard time getting stops in the fourth quarter,” said Community R-VI head coach Matt Thomas.
Cordell Hollensteiner led the Trojans with 24 points; Jett had 11 points; Eric Hombs scored 10 points; Blaze Escamilla scored seven points; and Evan Hartsock had three points.
Against rival Wellsville, the Trojans trailed 22-9 at the end of the first quarter and struggled through the entire game in a 64-42 loss.
“We just didn’t get much going in this game,” Thomas said. “Defensively, we missed some assignments and let our offensive struggles carry over to the defensive end of the floor.”
Jett paced the Trojans with 16 points; Hollensteiner had 11 points; Escamilla scored six points; Kyle Oligschlaeger scored five points; and Hartsock scored two points.
