The No. 5 seed Community R-VI Trojans basketball team was hoping to pick up a first round win over Bevier in the Class 1, District 11 Tournament at Madison.
A win would have given the Trojans a semifinals match-up with rival Wellsville-Middletown, who went on to win their first district title since 1988.
Unfortunately, the Trojans couldn’t find enough offense in a heartbreaking double overtime loss to Bevier, 56-54.
Bevier led 9-7 early before Community R-VI started the second quarter on a 5-0 run to take the lead.
Cordell Hollensteiner made a basket and Bobby Jett made back-to-back 3-pointers during an 8-0 run to give the Trojans a 10-point edge.
Community R-VI entered halftime up 24-16 but Bevier responded with a big third quarter. They outscored the Trojans 11-5 to cut the lead to two points.
The Trojans started the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run to take an eight point lead. Bevier responded with a 5-0 run of their own.
After Bevier took a late two point lead, Anthony Fairchild hit a shot in the final seconds to tie the game to send it to overtime.
In the first overtime, the Trojans were up three points.

Bevier went up 56-54 on a pair of late free throws before a couple of turnovers were too much for the Trojans to shake off.
Hollensteiner led the Trojans with 18 points, eight rebounds, and one steal in the loss.
Jett added 11 points and one rebound; Fairchild had nine points, 15 rebounds, and one steal; Gage Graves had six points, six rebounds, and one steal; Gatlin Curtis tallied four points, two rebounds, and one steal; Matt Gastler had four points, two rebounds, one block, and one steal; Eric Combs tallied four points, four rebounds, and one steal; and Jamie Householder had two rebounds.
Defensively, Fairchild led the team with seven deflections/tips.
