The Community R-VI School Board discussed several items during its monthly meeting on October 21.
According to the meeting minutes, the meeting began as the board voted to approve the agenda, consent items and the payment of October 2015 bills.
Karissa Graves and Travis Swaim presented information on the FFA Trap Program.
The board voted to accept and enter into a two-year football cooperative agreement with Van-Far.
The board voted for Community R-VI Superintendent Cheryl Mack to negotiate the purchase of the Head Start bus.
The board also voted to adopt the following polices and regulations: Policy 0320, Policy 2115, Policy 2230, Policy 2850, Policy 2710, Policy and Regulation 3160, Policy and Regulation 4120, Policy 4630, Policy 6116, and Policy 6320
The board voted to accept a proposal from Talbot Brothers Nurseries and Landscaping, as well as developing a plan to maintain the new landscaping.
Superintendent Mack updated the Board on Transportation and on Opaa! Food Service Management, Inc. She also shared that Professional Development days are going extremely well with teachers since they are held on Monday when school is not in session.
Community R-VI Elementary Principal Tammy Angel stated that attendance is at 96% in the elementary. On October 20, the PTO had their 1st Annual Box Tops Carnival and it was a huge success. Students and Parents played games and did different activities in exchange for Box Tops. Parent Teacher conferences held on October 12 had 94% participation with kindergarten having 100% participation.
The elementary science lab is up and running and the students are enjoying it very much.
Community R-VI Secondary Principal Bob Curtis shared that middle school and high school enrollment is at 158 students. Attendance for September was at the highest it’s been in seven years at 96.6%. He said the 11th grade is currently winning the attendance award. There were 102 parents and/or guardians who attended parent teacher conferences on October 12. ASVAB testing is complete.
Mrs. Jennifer Gilman has a “College Acceptance Board” located outside her office. Students can look and see where both they and their fellow classmates have been accepted.
The Trunk or Treat was scheduled for October 25 from 5-8 p.m. and Fan Fest will be held on November 6 starting at 5 p.m.
As for hirings, the board voted to hire Debbie Carline as a regular route driver and voted to hire Rosalyn Lynn as a part-time evening custodian.
