R-VI School Board gives approval to Superintendent

The Community R-VI School Board expressed their confidence in current Superintendent Cheryl Mack when they met to discuss her evaluation after the regularly scheduled board meeting last Wednesday night.
The board voted to extend her contract through the 2015-2016 school year during Executive Session.
Superintendent Mack shared information on House Bill 1689 during the open session. She said that she would be finalizing the Annual Lagoon Report in the next week or so. Superintendent Mack also shared that in the near future, the SRO would be attending ALICE training.
Bank bids went out last week and are due March 6. Copier bids will go out in the near future.
She also commented that a final calendar would be decided and voted on during the March Board Meeting.
A public hearing was set for the beginning of the March 18 board meeting to discuss the 2015-2016 Calendar.
She also presented the Transportation and Transportation Maintenance Reports.
Community R-VI Elementary Principal Tammy Angel announced that Community R-VI Elementary earned recognition as a Title I High-Progress Reward School.
She said the attendance is at 93% due to illness.
Principal Angel also noted that the Elementary Spelling Bee was being held on January 27 and the Geography Bee will be held on January 29.
She also shared that formal observations would begin soon.
Community R-VI Secondary Principal Bob Curtis stated the Secondary attendance is at 95%.
He shared that 13 students were inducted into the National Honor Society on January 12.
Curtis also stated that Homecoming will be February 6, with the first game starting at 5 p.m. He said the 8th grade class will have a spaghetti supper on February 20 to raise funds for the end of the year field trip.
An interactive presentation was made by teachers Haley Nobis and Becky McCurdy. They presented the iPad program for freshmen students. Ms. Nobis and Mrs. McCurdy demonstrated how the Near Pod, Notability, and Algebra I applications work.
Board member Scott Sims commented that he enjoyed the presentations from the teachers.
The board voted to approve the agenda, consent items, and the payment of the January bills.
Community R-VI School Board President Andrew Fairchild read a thank you card from the Bill Gastler family thanking the board and staff for a stepping stone.
The board voted to amend the 2014-2015 Budget.
Graduation is set for Sunday, May 17. Future weather days could require a change in the scheduled date.
The board voted to adopt Policy 0320 and Policy and Regulation 3480.
