Each month at Community R-VI, STRIVE sponsors a boy and girl high school student as Students of the Month. When choosing this honor, teachers and staff members consider effort in academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, adherence to school rules, and demonstration of school spirit and pride.
The January Students of the Month are Avery Carline and Lexa Cope, and February Students of the Month are Cordell Hollensteiner and Bethany Schmidt.
Junior Avery Carline is the son of Jim and Liz Carline, of Martinsburg.
He is active in FFA, Basketball, Baseball, NHS, and 4-H. Avery enjoys trapshooting, baseball, video games, and hanging out with friends.
Senior Lexa Cope is the daughter of Thomas Cope and Penny Umstattd-Cope, of Martinsburg.
She is active in Cheerleading, Art Club, Future Teachers of America, Future Business Leaders of America, TREND, and the National Honor Society.
Lexa enjoys draft horse showing, painting, and drawing.
Sophomore Cordell Hollensteiner is the son of Joanna Schwartze and Brian Hollensteiner, of Martinsburg.
He is active in Basketball, Baseball, and FCA. Cordell enjoys playing basketball and hanging out with friends.
Sophomore Bethany Schmidt is the daughter of Miranda and Brad Schmidt, of Martinsburg. She is active in Basketball, Choir, FCA, FTA, FBLA, and Drama Club. Bethany enjoys reading, singing, and hanging out with friends.
