The Community R-VI Middle School track and field team had several strong performances at recent meets in Louisiana and Montgomery.
At the May 3 meet, Taylor Cope medaled in fourth place in the shot put after tossing a personal best 31’1”. She also took second in the girls discus with a toss of 68’7”.
Several other athletes either ran or threw their personal best in their events.
Those include Paige Risenhoover in the shot put (25’.25”), Hunter Houghton in the discus (59’), Chelsea Hoyt in the long jump (13’8”), Bethany Schmidt in the triple jump (26’), Charley Ann Stone in the 400 meters (1:11.57), Molly-Claire Mays in the 100 meters in 16.84 seconds, and Emma Evans in the 800 meters (3:19.97).
“We had a lot of our athletes run, jump, or throw their personal bests at this meet,” said Community R-VI head track and field coach Stacie Carroz.
“I am so proud of how each individual has improved, as well as, how we have improved as a team.”
In Montgomery on May 5, Katie Bertels ran a personal best time in the 75-meter hurdles (15.30 seconds).
Stone placed sixth overall in the 400 meters with a time of 1:11.94.
Eric Hombs was sixth in the discus with his personal best throw of the season after a toss of 89’4.75”.
Cope took fourth in the discus with a throw of 69’1.75” and fifth in the shot put with a toss of 30’1.75”.
