The Community R-VI Lady Trojans trounced Monroe City in the school’s first ever home opener for a junior high softball program, earning a 14-6 victory.
The Lady Trojans charged early putting up six runs in the first inning and held a 7-2 lead by the end of the second. Community R-VI chalked up another six runs in the fourth, scoring an additional run in their final at-bat to take the win.
“The girls played hard, put everything they have learned in practice into play, and executed to win the game,” Lady Trojans head coach Erin Mack said.
Alissa Curtis tossed the five-inning game with nine strikeouts, 12 hits, and four walks.
On offense, Sirrina Dunn had three hits and two RBIs. Danielle Jackson had three hits with one RBI, and Jessi Hill had two hits with one RBI.
Lady Trojans fall to
South Callaway beat Community R-VI 16-1 in the Lady Trojans’ second game of the season September 11.
South Callaway came in early chalking up seven runs in the first inning, scoring another seven runs in the second.
On the mound Curtis had five strikeouts, four hits, and five walks.
Community R-VI committed eight errors with no hits in the game.
First game at Silex
Lady Trojans held Silex’s early attack off through the fourth holding a 5-4 lead. The Lady Owls put up four runs in the first inning, eventually taking the win at 6-5 for a Lady Trojan loss.
“Like any first game of a season, the girls were nervous but anxious to get the season started,” Mack said. “The girls played hard and kept it a close game defending the plate until the final inning.”
Curtis tossed six innings with three hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.
On offense, Amber Harrison and Katilyn Foreman had two hits, and Hill had on hit. The Lady Trojans committed six errors.
