The Community R-VI Junior High boys basketball team moved its record to 6-2 last week after picking up a couple of more impressive victories.
The Trojans started out their latest stretch of games by dominating nearby rival Wellsville, 50-16.
Cadin Escamilla started the game by making four 3-pointers and scored all 15 first quarter points for an early 11-point lead.
Escamilla added eight more points in the second quarter to go up 30-8.
Escamilla added 11 points in the second half and finished with 34 points in the 34-point win.
Hunter Hoeflicker added six points, both Dallas Isgrig and Damion Eckley scored three points, while Ethan Fort and Garrett Schmidt each scored two points.
“Defense was good all night,” said Community R-VI head coach Kenneth Jett.
The Trojans picked up their fifth win of the season when they held on late after a big Silex fourth quarter rally to win the game, 45-40.
Community R-VI dominated early as Escamilla scored 15 first-half points for a 28-11 lead.
Silex responded in the final two quarters by outscoring the Trojans 29-17 but it wasn’t enough in the five point loss.
Escamilla had 30 points. Hoeflicker added eight points, Isgrig added a 3-pointer, and both Clayton Brandt and Schmidt scored two points.
“Started out well good first two quarters; did not play well the second half but held on,” Jett noted.
The Trojans lost just their second game of the season when third quarter struggles cost them in a 47-40 loss to North Callaway.
Community R-VI trailed 26-22 at halftime in spite of making five 3-pointers.
The Trojans were outscored 11-5 in the third quarter before a late rally came up short in the seven point loss.
Escamilla scored 29 points while Eckler had six points. Brandt scored three points and Schmidt had two points.
