The Community R-VI Lady Trojans basketball team picked up wins number 14 and 15 last week after defeating rival Wellsville and Westran.
In their Homecoming game last Friday night, the Lady Trojans went on a 22-4 run in the first five minutes of the second quarter for a 22-point halftime lead.
Community R-VI held of a late Wellsville charge to win the game 58-49.
“It was nice to win on Homecoming,” said Community R-VI head girls basketball coach Bob Curtis.
All-stater Samm Jett paced the Lady Trojans with 27 points, five rebounds, two steals, and one assist while Alissa Curtis tallied 12 points, four steals, three rebounds, two assists, and one block.
Danie Jackson had eight points, two steals, one rebound, and one assist; Danielle Brooks added four points, five steals, five assists, four rebounds, and one block; Rebecca Hagan had three points, two rebounds, and one assist; Samantha Jackson had two points, four rebounds, and two steals; Charley Ann Stone added two points; Chelsea Hoyt had three rebounds and one assist; Tayler Cope tallied one steal, one assist, and one rebound; Lexus LaGesse had one rebound; Bethany Schmidt  had one rebound; and Ivy Stathem added one rebound and one block.
Beating Westran
One night later, the Lady Trojans outscored Westran 25-16 in the second half to hold on for a 41-34 victory in a game played at Moberly Area Community College.
“We made good decisions in the fourth quarter to secure the win,” Bob Curtis said.
The Lady Trojans’ coach said the effort of Samantha Jackson was a key to their victory.
“Sam Jackson’s effort on their best player, who averages 13 points a game, was a big reason why we won on Saturday,” Bob Curtis added. “Sam held her to six points in the contest and worked extremely hard on a much taller player. It was a defensive struggle all night.”
Alissa Curtis led the Lady Trojans with eight points, 14 rebounds, and seven blocks.
Jett had 15 points, one rebound, and one steal while Brooks tallied 10 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists.
Hagan had six points, nine rebounds, and one steal; Danie Jackson had one point, three rebounds, and two assists; Samantha Jackson had one point, two rebounds, two assists, and one steal; and Hoyt had three rebounds and three assists.

Loss to Clopton

The Lady Trojans began the week battling the flu bug and an always tough Clopton squad.
Clopton jumped out to a 22-3 first quarter edge to set the tone and didn’t look back in a 67-50 win.
“We had a rough first quarter that was a hole we could not dig out of,” Bob Curtis said. “The rest of the game we played pretty square with the Hawks…”
In the loss, Jett scored her 1,000th career point after finishing with 27 points, three steals, and two rebounds.
“I am very proud of Samm and the hard work she has put in to reach this milestone,” Bob Curtis said.
Brooks had 10 points, seven assists, six rebounds, four steals, and one block while Alissa Curtis tallied six points, two rebounds, and two blocks.
Danie Jackson had four points, two rebounds, and one assist; Hagan tallied two points and two rebounds; Samantha Jackson had one point and one assist; and Hoyt added two rebounds and two assists.
