Communty R-VI’s Shelby Curtis looks for an open player against Clopton.

Last season, the postseason ended a little earlier than planned for the Community R-VI Lady Trojans as Louisiana knocked them out of districts by 16 points.
Community R-VI got a little revenge last week when the Lady Trojans traveled to Louisiana and defeated the Lady Bulldogs 45-38, helping them end a recent losing streak.
“It was nice to get in the win column after a tough week last week,” said Community R-VI head coach Bob Curtis. “We didn’t shoot the ball well from the field but got to the line and made 18 free throws.”
The Lady Trojans led 8-4 at the end of the first quarter before Louisiana won the second quarter.
Community R-VI had an 18-15 halftime lead and led by one in the fourth quarter before outscoring Louisiana 18-12 to win the game by seven.
In the win, the Lady Trojans made 18-of-31 free throws.
Brittni Brandwein led her team with 19 points while Paige Curtis added nine points and seven rebounds. Shelby Curtis added six points.
The Lady Trojans were hoping to end the week on a high note playing state-ranked Clopton. Unfortunately, Clopton dominated from the opening tip in a 66-42 loss.
Community R-VI made just three shots from the field in the first half and 12-of-22 free throws in the loss.
“Clopton is a really good basketball team and any time you shoot poorly and only have three field goals in a half you are going to lose to a team of that caliber,” Bob Curtis said. “The second half was a positive for our basketball team as we fought hard and finished the last 16 minutes 32-35 after spotting them a 21-point lead at half.”
Brandwein led the Lady Trojans with four 3-pointers for 13 points, five steals, two rebounds, and one assist while Shelby Curtis added 11 points, three assists, two rebounds, and one steal. Paige Curtis added nine points, nine rebounds, and two steals; Amelia Knipfel had three points, two rebounds, and one assist; Emmalee McCoskey added two points and two rebounds; Alisha Arens had four points, three rebounds, and one assist; and Paige Harris added three assists, one steal, and one rebound.
