As one of the smaller FFA chapters in the state, Audrain County R-VI FFA Advisor Michele Koelling wasn’t sure how high the group could place during the 84th Missouri FFA Convention held April 19-20 in Columbia, Mo.
After an extremely busy and successful year, the Audrain County R-VI FFA placed fifth out of 327 chapters in the state, earning a Top Chapter Award. Only 10 percent of state chapters receive a top chapter designation each year.
“We’re really excited about the Top 5 chapter in the state,” Koelling said. “To be included in the Top 5 is a direct reflection of the work these kids do in the chapter at school…This is a very big statement for the work ethic of our kids and our community.”
Chapter activity awards, sponsored by FCS Financial, are given to chapters achieving excellence in student, chapter and community development. Audrain County FFA Chapter advisor is Michele Koelling.
The Audrain County R-VI FFA student development activities included sending their senior officers to Washington Leadership Conference. While in attendance the students developed technical, human relations and decision-making skills. Other activities included Supervised Agricultural Experience Program development and FFA week church attendance day.
