The Community R-VI boys basketball team finished off their second week of play with another win on Tuesday, December 3 at home. The Trojans increased their record to 2-0 after beating the Mark Twain Tigers, 57-52. R-VI will travel to Madison on Thursday, December 12.
In the first quarter, the Trojans scored 11 points. However, the Tigers took an early lead by scoring 12 points. While the Tigers fought hard to maintain the lead, the Trojans were able to score 14 points to pull ahead by one point at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Trojans increased their lead to three after they scored 15 points to go up 40-37.
The Trojans outscored the Tigers 17-15 in the fourth quarter to hold on for the five point victory.
Leading scorer was Clay Thebeau who made 17 points. Conner Brooks scored 11 points and Shane Myers and Kyle Curtis each scored 10 points. The Trojans were 13-for-16 from the free throw line.
“It was a hard fought game and both teams played well. Our free throw shooting, going 8-for-10 in fourth quarter helped, along with getting good shots. Also, Shane Myers came off the bench in the fourth and hit a big 3-pointer that gave us an emotional lift,” said head coach Kenneth Jett.
