The Community R-VI boys basketball team is continuing to gain needed gametime experience as the Trojans dropped a pair of EMO Conference games last week. The Trojans are now just 1-6 on the season. Community R-VI first traveled to Bowling Green last week and were outmatched in a 76-29 loss to the Bobcats.Bowling Green opened the game on a 22-10 run and never looked back as the Trojans failed to score 10 points or more in the final three quarters.
“Bowling Green (was) just too big and shot the ball well,” said Community R-VI head coach Ken Jett.
Bobby Jett led the Trojans with 11 points and one rebound. Gatlin Curtis added five points.
Community R-VI’s defense set the tone early in their home game against North Callaway last Friday night, which was also the same night as Courtwarming.
The Trojans led 5-2 early and led 15-13 at halftime. After pushing their lead to seven at the end of the third quarter, North Callaway rallied to outscore the Trojans 19-9 in the fourth quarter to win the game by three points.
“Poor fourth quarter,” Ken Jett said. “(We) turned the ball over under pressure.”
Cordell Hollensteiner led the Trojans with 14 points, four rebounds, and one steal while Matt Gastler had 10 points and two rebounds. (Monroe City stats unavailable.)
