The Community R-VI Trojans baseball team started the season with a 3-0 record last week after picking up big victories over both Wellsville and Marion County.
The Trojans started the week with a 12-1 victory over EMO Conference rival Wellsville after the Tigers started the game with a 1-0 first inning lead.
Community R-VI responded by scoring six runs in both the second and third innings to pull away for the victory.
Jacob Eastwood went 2-for-2 with an RBI double and two walks while Brennan Wells had two hits, two RBIs, and one run scored. Doug Davenport had two RBIs and one run scored; both Cameron Foreman and Lane Thebeau added one RBI and two runs scored; while Austin Layman, Nick Jensen, Clay Thebeau, Justin Durham, and Kaleb Harris each had one run scored. Wells earned the complete game victory after striking out five and allowing just one earned run.
“I was most impressed with our defensive effort tonight behind Brennan,” said Community R-VI head coach Mike Boedeker. “We made plays for our pitcher and that was something we wanted to improve on from our first game against Madison.”
In the rescheduled game with Marion County last week, the Trojans jumped out to a 13-0 lead before holding on late for the 18-8 victory over the Mustangs.
Eastwood tossed three innings on the mound for the victory and struck out five. Cameron Brooks allowed eight earned runs in relief while Durham tossed 1.1 innings and struck out three.
No offensive statistics were made available at press time.
The Trojans’ game with Cairo was postponed due to weather and has yet to be rescheduled.
