Several entertainment acts headline this year’s Prairie Days scheduled for September 27 in Vandalia as organized by the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce.
Country music artist Trent Tomlinson will be on the main stage at 8 p.m. and is expected to perform three of his singles that have reached the U.S. Billboard Top-40 Hot Country Songs charts. His newest single “Come Back To Bed” is currently available on iTunes.
Tomlinson was raised in Kennett, Missouri and is the son of former University of Missouri star Don Tomlinson, who was once drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
At 5 p.m., Mike Bliss will perform his Comedy/Magic Show on the Main Stage. Bliss is currently performing at the Pierce Arrow Theater in Branson, Mo.
Bliss has been performing magic for 33 years and has been featured on Fox’s “30 Seconds to Fame” and NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.”
Former “America’s Got Talent” judge Piers Morgan once said of Bliss: “You’re great! You’re going to go far in this business and make big money.”
He’s known for providing a family-friendly show as a Christian man in the comedy/magic show industry.
At 3 p.m., the bluegrass and gospel group “Blue Steel Rail” will perform.
Local groups “Pike 41” and “Riverside” will perform at 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. respectively.
At 5:30 p.m., there will be a Car Cruise with Brian Grote as chairperson.
The action-packed day begins at 8 a.m. with the 5K/10K event sponsored by Vandalia Playcare. Registration for the event is at 7:30 a.m.
The annual Baby Show starts at 9 a.m. with its registration set for 8:30 a.m. Chairperson Tracy Wilburn said there is no dress code for the event.
The Little Mr. and Miss Contest will start after the Baby Show.
Craft vendors will open booths at 10 a.m. The vendor contacts are Dr. Michael and Leila Cole.
A Volleyball Tournament will also start at 10 a.m. with Amy Kuda as chairperson. No location for the event has been released as of press time.
Line-up for the parade starts at 10:30 a.m. with the parade beginning at 11 a.m.
A Motorcycle Show begins at noon with Mike Culwell as the chairperson.
Also at noon, the Vandalia Area Historical Society’s Corn Husking Contest will begin.
There will be Street Entertainment and an Antique Tractor Showcase also beginning at noon.
The Kids Carnival starts at 12:30 p.m. and runs through 4:30 p.m.
This year’s 3-on-3 basketball tournament begins at 1 p.m. on State St. with a 12:30 p.m. registration. Pat Connaway is the chairperson.
A Super Farmer Contest, sponsored by the Van-Far FFA Alumni, starts near the Main Stage at 1 p.m. with a 12:30 p.m. registration.
The Methodist Church will feature a Cake Walk at 1:30 p.m.
A Washer Tournament follows at 2 p.m. with Derek Kuda as chairperson.
