Fast and Felonious:
On Sunday, Jan. 17, the Mexico Public Safety Department took reports of three vehicles stolen during the previous overnight hours.
Initial investigation indicated the suspects were part of a larger group of individuals, operating out of St. Louis, who travel to other areas stealing from unlocked cars and stealing cars that are unlocked with the keys inside.
Investigation indicated that some of this same group were in Mexico in November.
On Thursday, Jan. 21, at approximately 5:55 p.m., one of the cars recently stolen from Mexico was found, abandoned in St. Louis. On Friday, Jan. 22, at approximately 3 a.m., officers from Carrollton, Ill., located a second stolen vehicle from Mexico as the occupants were attempting to steal a car in Carrollton.
After a pursuit, Carrollton police and officers from other agencies caught three of the four people involved.
The people arrested were: Corvis D. Johnson, 35, of Belridge, Mo.; Quindarion L. Wright, 20, of St. Louis; and Jamie M. Dwyer, 22, of St. Charles.
Mexico Public Safety is continuing to work with other law enforcement agencies to determine appropriate charges in Audrain County.
Residents are reminded that people arrested / charged with a crime are simply accused of that crime and should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
