One fatality and several injuries in recent accidents

With one fatality and nine others suffering injuries, the week of May 26-June 3 was a difficult one for Vandalia area roadways.
On Saturday, June 2, Robert Kirgan, age 75, of Mexico, Mo., was killed when his 2006 Honda Odyssey reportedly crossed the center line and struck a car head on.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol Crash Report, Kirgan was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Missouri 22 at Route E by Audrain County Coroner Michael Farnen. The accident occurred around 3:20 p.m. and is Troop F’s 28th fatality in 2012.
Victor Violaris, age 43, of Riviera Beach, Fla. was the driver of a 2012 Toyota Tacoma that was hit head on and suffered serious injuries. He was flown to University Hospital.

Motorcycle Accidents
Allen Level, age 37, of Sturgeon, Mo., suffered moderate injuries at 3:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 3 when he wrecked while driving his 1987 Harley Davidson.
According to the Crash Report, Level reportedly failed to negotiate a curve on Route C, just north of Audrain County 248.
He went off the right side of the roadway before he overturned.
He was transported to the University Hospital by ambulance.
In Montgomery County at 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, two motorcycle riders suffered moderate injuries after striking a dog.
According to the Crash Report, Danny Tarrants, age 46, of Wellsville, Mo., was driving his 1994 Honda motorcycle on Route A, just 1.9 miles east of Missouri 19.
He reportedly struck the dog with his motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to overturn and travel off the right side of the roadway.
His passenger Ashley Hollensteiner, age 20, of Montgomery City, was also injured. Both were taken by ambulance to Audrain Hospital.

Two more accidents
One 48-year-old woman and a 9-year-old child both had moderate injuries after a one vehicle accident on Route D, just .3 miles north of Route N in Pike County.
According to the Crash Report, Vennie Jenkins, of Hammond, Ind., was driving a 2009 Ford Fusion when she traveled off the right side of the roadway.
She overcorrected before traveling off the right side of the road a second time and the vehicle overturned.
The 9-year-old was flown by Air Evac to Cardinal Glennon Hospital while Jenkins was taken by ambulance to Pike County Memorial Hospital.
Three people suffered minor injuries after a two vehicle accident on Montgomery County Road 79, just two miles north of Highway E.
According to the Crash Report, a 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by Reubin Lowe, age 47, of Middletown struck head on with a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 47-year-old Raymond Grooms, of Mexico, Mo. The report shows both vehicles driving in the middle of the county road before striking one another.
Sheila Lowe, age 46, of Middletown, Mo. was also injured.
All three were transported by ambulance to Audrain Medical Center.
