Vandalia Police Officer Logan Benjamin took about a month to set up an elaborate plan to propose to his girlfriend Adriana Click with the goal of making her his fiancé.
The story she was provided, through the help of Vandalia Police Department colleagues and City of Vandalia employees, was that Officer Benjamin was set to receive a six-month anniversary pin at a scheduled ceremony.
The event allegedly was to take place around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, December 12 at the Grand Vandalia Hotel.
In having Click first stop at City Hall, the next part of the plan was to have Officer Ray Bumbales, who is also her friend, pull her over after she turned onto West State St.
As she was pulled over, Officer Benjamin, who was hiding just inside “The Vandalia Leader” office, exited and walked towards where the traffic stop occurred just in front of the hotel. With her back facing the hotel, Officer Benjamin made his quick approach.
“So I walked up and she saw me,” Officer Benjamin said. “I had a stern look and then I did not know what I was saying,” Officer Benjamin said as he was emotionally excited just minutes after the big proposal. “…I told her that I loved her from day one.”
He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.
“And she said yes and that’s the most important part, she said yes,” he noted.
Since Click knew Officer Bumbales, she thought he was just joking around when he pulled her over.  She added that Officer Benjamin knows her very well and he knew that she would want to be dressed nice for a proposal. She was dressed up looking nice for an event she thought was attending for Officer Benjamin.
Little did she know this event she was attending would change her life forever.
