The Vandalia YMCA Steering Committee is pleased to start the new year with well over half of the money raised in donations, grants, and pledges thanks to many generous partners!
Niemann Foods, on behalf of the County Market in Vandalia, made a $5,000 donation during an official presentation last week.
The YMCA project is approximately 19,000 square feet, estimated $2.8 million which includes an endowment of 20% of the cost of the building.
Now the project is entering the final stretch of the fundraising race. As soon as 30% (about $840,000) gets collected, the Mabee Foundation Grant will donate the final 20%.
What will the Eastern Missouri Family YMCA have to offer?  In addition to the traditional Zumba, Pilates, cardio, basketball, soccer, volleyball activities, there will be an indoor walking track. The YMCA could offer chair exercise classes for seniors to enhance their range of motion and endurance. An after-school program for young students will offer homework assistance and fun, physical activities while parents are at work. Meeting rooms will be available to community organizations and groups. The goal is for construction to star this summer, but the project needs some local help!
It has a capital campaign committee that is working very diligently to contact community members of all ages personally.
If they have not contacted you and you would like to know more about how to make this project a reality, please contact Terri Jungers at 573-406-2982 or Felicity Goodpasture-Culwell at 573-473-9362.
